According to The Component Club, u-blox introduced the compact ALMA-W1 module series built on Nordic Semiconductor's nRF7120 and nRF7120E SoCs, combining Wi-Fi 6/6E, Bluetooth Low Energy and IEEE 802.15.4 for battery-powered and space-constrained devices. Variants with an embedded antenna measure 10.4 × 14.3 mm and external-antenna versions 10.4 × 11.2 × 1.9 mm, with 63 configurable GPIOs. The module can run as a wireless MCU or as a network processor with u-blox's u-connectXpress software (AT-command control); selected versions include an Axon NPU for edge AI, which u-blox says is up to 15x faster than running the same workload on the CPU. Initial samples are going to selected customers and the modules will be shown at electronica 2026 in Munich.
